Become a Surf Coach

The Instructor and Lifeguard courses we run are a popular edition to Discovery Surf School's repertoire of services.  We are renowned as the leading forerunners of surf coaching techniques, as Producers of the internationally best selling 110% Surf Techniques Volumes 1&2.  Also, as there is no longer a fully functioning Governing Body for surfing, Discovery Surf School is one of the very few centres in the UK that provides a recognised surf coaching qualification 

We offer Academy of Surf Instructor (ASI) Level 1 Surf Instructor qualifications and the internationally recognised Surf Life Saving Beach Lifeguard award. 

ASI is a worldwide organisation specialising in offering surf instructor training courses, education and surf school accreditation as well as having comprehensive learn to surf books, DVD's and student workbooks for schools and colleges. ASI qualifications are Internationally recognised unlike most other surf instructor qualifications and graduates of the ASI courses can gain employment with ASI Accredited Surf Schools throughout the world.

Location: Challaborough Bay (meeting point - see picture, surf beach and classroom) and Bigbury on-Sea (back-up surf location), South Devon.

Martin Connolly will be taking the courses and he is a ASI Level 4 Master Coach, with over 12 years of coaching experience.  Martin is a top rated surfer and has lifeguarded in the UK and Australia.  He is also the Producer of 110% Surfing Techniques DVD's.

Our first June class all passed their ASI Course with flying colours and have now completed their qualification having done their work experience hours, after a successful summer with Discovery Surf School.  Well done everyone!

SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Course - March 2012

Cost - £295

Location: Challaborough Bay, South Devon, UK.

Training Dates: Sat 3rd, Sun 4th, Sat 10th, Sun 11th and Sat 17th March 2012. 9am to 5pm.

Swim Test: Thursday 1st March 8:30pm to 9:30pm at Kingsbridge Pool.

Exam Date: Sat 17th March 2011 at Challaborough Bay. 9am to 5pm.
